Excerpt from: “To the Last Frontier” Autobiography of Lucy Hannah White Flake. Lucy describes entering Silver Creek Valley
July 19, 1878 we started for our new home and two days later reached what to me was Paradise. When we drove to the brow of a hill where a view of the valley could be obtained, I was speechless at the beauty of it all. William turned to me and asked me what I thought of it. When he saw the tears running down my cheeks, he feared I was disappointed. I just put my arms around the one of his that was nearest to me and squeezed it with all my might. He stopped the team and Prudence and the girls clambered out from under the wagon cover. Their “Ohs” and “Ahs” released my tongue and I said: “If Heaven is any better than this, I am glad I saw this first, so as to kinda get used to such beauty.”
